Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Nola collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our mobile app, website, and related services.

1. Scope

This policy applies to information processed through Nola, including account sign-in, manual transaction entry, AI-assisted transaction parsing, budgeting features, shared groups, purchases, and support interactions.

2. Information We Collect

  • Account information: email address, sign-in provider identifiers, and account preferences.
  • Financial information you create: transaction amounts, merchants or descriptions, notes, categories, budgets, recurring entries, payment methods, and related finance records.
  • AI input data: text, receipt images, screenshots, and audio that you choose to submit for parsing.
  • Subscription and purchase state: entitlement, plan, trial, and restore status needed to manage premium access.
  • Product usage data: events such as screen views, feature usage, onboarding completion, parsing outcomes, and app diagnostics used to improve reliability and product quality.
  • Support data: messages and details you provide when you contact support.
  • On-device data: app preferences, local session state, and temporarily queued transaction changes used to support offline behavior and sync when connectivity returns.

3. Permissions We Request

Nola may request access to your camera, photo library, microphone, speech recognition, and Face ID only when you choose features that need them.

  • Camera and photo library are used to scan receipts and statements.
  • Microphone and speech recognition are used for voice transaction input.
  • Face ID is used to help protect access to your financial data inside the app.

4. How We Use Information

  • Provide the core Nola experience and secure account access.
  • Sync your transactions, budgets, categories, and settings across devices.
  • Parse transaction inputs from text, images, and audio using AI-assisted services.
  • Improve transaction classification and app quality.
  • Process premium subscriptions, free trials, and purchase restoration.
  • Monitor abuse, maintain security, troubleshoot issues, and respond to support requests.

5. Third-Party Services and Processors

We use trusted service providers to operate Nola, including:

  • Authentication services for secure account sign-in and session management, including Apple and Google as sign-in providers.
  • Cloud database and sync services for application data storage and real-time sync across devices.
  • Subscription management services to handle entitlements, trials, and purchase restoration.
  • Product analytics services to understand feature adoption, screen flow, and failures so we can improve the app.
  • AI processing services to parse transaction data from text, images, and audio. Requests are routed through secure intermediaries and inputs are not stored beyond the time needed to return results.

We share only the information needed to deliver each function. We do not sell personal data and we do not use your data for cross-app advertising or tracking.

6. AI Input Handling

When you choose AI-assisted features, the content you submit for parsing may be sent to our AI routing and model providers to return structured transaction data. This can include text you type, receipt or statement images, screenshots, and voice input.

We do not intentionally include your full identity in AI prompts. The parsing request may include the content you submit together with supporting context such as your category list so the models can return a more accurate result.

7. Analytics

We use analytics to understand how Nola is used and to improve the product. Analytics may include a pseudonymous user identifier, screen views, onboarding events, purchase state, and feature interactions. We do not use analytics for third-party ad targeting.

8. Data Retention

We keep account and transaction data while your Nola account is active so you can access your history and keep devices in sync. If you request deletion through the app, we delete your Nola app data from our application backend unless we are required to keep certain information for legal, security, or fraud-prevention reasons.

Your external sign-in provider account, such as your Apple or Google account, remains subject to that provider's own account management and deletion controls.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to help protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse.

10. Your Choices and Rights

  • You can update app data and preferences inside Nola.
  • You can request deletion of your Nola app data using in-app controls.
  • You can contact us about access, correction, or deletion requests.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple App Store account settings.

11. Children's Privacy

Nola is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

12. International Transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where applicable, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border data processing.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and provide notice when appropriate.
